Computational and Data Science Certificate

Systems Field offers a Computational and Data Science Certificate, taught by Fengqi You, the Roxanne E. and Michael J. Zak Professor in Energy Systems Engineering.

The Computational and Data Science Certificate provided by Systems Engineering Program, Cornell University, offers a structural foundation in data analytics and computational informatics, while preparing students with solid analytics and problem-solving skills using unifying principles from machine learning, computing science, systems optimization, and data science.

This dynamic program exposes students to an amazing array of applications and tools used in manufacturing, energy, aerospace, defense, transportation, finance, management, health care, supply chain, etc.

Employment and Salary Ranges

Data scientists offer employers' a unique skill set and bring added value to the table. According to Indeed, the average data scientist salary is $129,095. Many data scientist find themselves working for companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook and various financial institutions.

Obtaining the Computational and Data Science Certificate

To earn the Computational and Data Science Certificate, students must enroll in and achieve a grade of B or higher in two out of these three courses:

Beginning in summer 2023, all students who enroll in either the SYSEN 5000-level, SYSEN 6000-level or the chemical engineering cross-listed sessions (CHEME 6800, 6880, 6888) will also be eligible for the certificate.

Note that this policy change will take effect in the fall 2023 semester and cannot be retroactively applied to previous semesters.
